Anna-Lisa Smith designs textiles you can’t help but love.
A pared back, minimal approach to design combined with a love of colour and an appreciation for quality materials and workmanship are at the heart of Anna-Lisa's work. All pieces are designed for longevity, they are not fashion items but are timeless objects, designed to be treasured and to bring joy every day.
Her studio was launched in 2014 in West Yorkshire surrounded by many historic weaving mills. These local mills are not only essential to the running of her business but also serve as an architectural influence. An abstract interpretation of the glazing bars and brick facades can be seen in both her steps and brick cushion.
The cushions feel soft and luxurious due to their super plump duck feather inners and high quality woollen cloth which is woven and washed within fifty miles of her own studio.
The blankets have a satisfying weight and are woven in a mixture of merino and lambswool. They are fully reversible and are large enough to fit comfortably over a king size bed.
Like us here at Urban Coo, Anna-Lisa draws inspiration from the Bauhaus; perhaps the most influential education establishment in the fields or architecture, art and design. The Bauhaus is now in its centenary year and Anna-Lisa’s work is a wonderful reminder that the ideas of the school are still very much alive today.
